Derwent Valley Orienteering Club qualify for national finals

In a nine-way competition held at the Forestry Commission plantation at Sherwood Pines near Mansfield, the club fielded a strong team of 93 runners to finish second.

The competition comprised of colour-coded courses graded in difficulty and physicality based on the age of the competitor.

This was a whole club competition with runners aged between 12 and 82 years-old.

The winner of each course scored 100 points with the runner-up 99 points and so on, with the top three club scorers on each course counted to the overall team score.

However such was the strength of the Derwent Valley team that those not contributing directly to the team score, still had a major part to play by reducing the score that other clubs runners achieved.

This competition was one of several heats held across the country and Derwent Valley will meet the winners of the other heats at Helsington Burrows, near Kendal on Sunday 18th October.
